If you’ve been a trucker for some time, you may be familiar with “lot lizards,” but you may not know their harsh realities. Today, we’ll explore what you, as a truck driver, need to know about these people and discuss their direct link to human trafficking in America.
We’ll also talk about ways to be vigilant at truck stops and protect vulnerable people from being forced into this line of work.
What Truck Drivers Need to Know About Lot Lizards
Unfortunately, people do not always take the underlying issues behind lot lizards seriously. Some people have turned to making jokes or speaking derogatorily about them.
The truth behind these people and how they got into this line of work is sobering.
What are Lot Lizards?
The term “lot lizards” refers to prostituted people who work in truck stops and rest areas. Truck stop prostitution occurs most commonly at night but can also happen during the day.
Prostituted men and women are often victims of sex crimes. Sex traffickers coerce their victims into prostitution through promises, threats, violence, and/or abduction and drugging. They are forced to offer sexual services to truck drivers by reaching out over CB radios or going from truck to truck.
Lot Lizards: Not What, But Who
It’s important to remember that “lot lizards” are people first. Many victims are young and vulnerable, being lured into sex work while dealing with drug addiction, homelessness, or poverty.
They often feel they have no control over their life or escape outside of truck stop prostitution. The harsh reality about these sex workers is that many are victims of modern-day slavery or trafficking.
The Horrors of Human Trafficking
Prostitution is illegal and often a direct result of human trafficking.
Traffickers lure young men and women into truck stop prostitution through promises of money, or threats of violence to the victim or their families or friends, direct physical abuse, fraud, or drugging.
These victims are not sex workers. Unlike sex workers in the sex industry, trafficking victims have no control.
While most victims are women and girls, truck-stop prostitution can also affect men. These alarming statistics do not touch on the horrors and despair that human trafficking victims experience in their everyday lives.
Sex trafficking victims face horrifying health conditions. Many victims of truck stop prostitution live in unhygienic conditions and receive no medical care. They are subject to sexually transmitted infections and diseases.
These physical health conditions, paired with the grueling mental health conditions of sex trafficking victims, can dehumanize a person and make them feel hopeless.
Beth Jacobs: Trucking Prostitution Survivor
Beth Jacobs is a sex trafficking survivor who shared her personal heart-wrenching trafficking story with us at AllTruckJobs.com. In her interview, she advises how truck drivers can help victims like her.
She also gives important insight regarding victims trafficked by people they know or even trust.
How It Began
Beth Jacobs was just a 16-year-old girl when she was prostituted. Living in Minneapolis, Jacobs frequented a downtown bus station next to a bar.
One day, a man outside the bar coerced her to come inside and play pool with him and his friends. After this first occasion, Jacobs frequently visited the pool hall, which often served her alcohol underage.
After missing her bus one weekend, she asked one of the men she had befriended at the bar to give her a ride home. Once they were in the car, the man drugged Jacobs and drove her six hours away to Chicago.
When Jacobs woke up, the man told her he was a pimp. He beat her and forced her to sleep with a waiting truck driver. After this, Jacobs endured brutal beatings, forced prostitution, and a life of terror for six more years.
Hopeless and Helpless
When Jacobs was abducted, beaten, and forced into prostitution, she felt she had no escape. Her pimp threatened to kill her if she ever tried to ask for help. He took away everything that was hers, frequently beating and drugging her.
At one point, Jacobs escaped her first pimp and chose another. She says this escape and subsequent re-prostituting are the only reason she survived.
She felt utterly alone, unwanted, and humiliated during this time. She was let down by the people she thought should be able to help her.
Jacobs described a woman who would come to pray for the girls. This woman took no action to help the girls, instead frequently shaming them. Even the police, who she expected to save her, offered her no escape.
Jacobs escaped her pimp after going to jail for a warrant. When she was released, she told another prostituted girl that she was going out to make money for their pimp and was able to flee to a nearby hotel.
After this escape, Jacobs began prostituting herself to pay hotel fees and make money. Her trafficker had told her that she was ruined and that no one would ever want her, so she felt that she had to offer sexual services to have someone love her.
Beauty from Ashes
It took Jacobs a long time to come to terms with what had happened to her and to heal. After she escaped prostitution, she got her B. S. Social Work degree so she could help other sex trafficking victims like herself.
In the interview with AllTruckJobs.com, Jacobs detailed countless times over those 6 years when bystanders could have helped her but did not know how.
Now a Field Trainer with the group Truckers Against Trafficking, she works full-time helping victims of trafficking and educating the public about this issue. She advises truckers and those who frequent truck stops to remain vigilant and stay educated so they can help victims of prostitution.
Hear Jacobs tell her full story:
Being an Anti-Trafficking Advocate
AllTruckJobs.com is firmly against truck stop prostitution and recognizes the horrifying realities associated with lot lizards. We encourage all truck drivers to watch out for and report incidences of human trafficking activity at truck stops.
Truckers Against Trafficking is an excellent resource that truckers can use to learn more about human trafficking in the trucking industry and how to be an advocate against trafficking.
Warning Signs of Human Trafficking at Truck Stops
According to Truckers Against Trafficking, there are red flags that a trucker can be alert for that may indicate human trafficking activity.
These include:
Individuals having a lack of knowledge of their whereabouts
Individuals with restricted or controlled communication
Drivers flashing headlights at truck stops
Individuals mentioning a pimp or quota
A van or RV dropping off and picking up individuals at truck stops
An unusual car waiting at a truck stop
Individuals without access to their identification or money
CB radio interactions referencing “commercial company”
Individuals with branding or tattooing often of the trafficker’s name
If you see any warning signs, contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888 and report a tip. If you witness a crime while it is in action, call 911 immediately.
If you are at a truck stop or any other place of business, you should also inform the business manager on duty of the activity so that they can take proper action. Do not approach traffickers.
Once you make a report, you should wait for local police officers to handle the situation and recover the victims. As truck drivers, you are the eyes and ears of the road.
By keeping a vigilant watch at truck stops and parking lots, truck drivers can end truck-stop prostitution. Truck stop owners can contribute to the fight against truck stop prostitution.
They can post informative signs about traffickers and prostitution, have a night security guard or parking lot patrol, and limit rest area usage to truckers only.
The Language We Use Matters
Being an anti-trafficking advocate involves the language you use when discussing victims. Truckers Against Trafficking describes a series of words you should not use when referencing victims, including:
Prostitute
Lot lizard
Truck stop hookers
Sex workers
Rescue
Victims of sex trafficking are forced into prostitution. Therefore it is crucial to refer to them as prostituted people rather than prostitutes. Beth Jacobs, the former prostituted person in the interview above, described how identifying with the verb “prostituted” rather than the noun “prostitute” reflected the gravity of her situation.
Engaging in open conversation about sensitive topics like truck stop prostitution is essential. Talking about issues such as these helps to raise awareness and educate others on how to respond to the problem.
With this, it is crucial not to precipitate any stigma or negative talk surrounding the issue through insensitive language.
AllTruckJobs.com used the term “lot lizards” in this article to educate and explain the term to those unfamiliar with the larger issue, but AllTruckJobs.com does not recommend using this term elsewhere.
Dangers for Truckers
It is important to remember that truck stop prostitution victims face pressure to meet a certain quota from their trafficker. Because of this, some prostituted people at truck stops may try to approach your truck even if you do not invite them.
In such instances, remain parked in your truck with locked doors and call the human trafficking hotline.
While it is important to stay alert for signs of human trafficking, it is still your job to ensure your safety. As mentioned earlier, do not approach traffickers or leave your truck unattended.
Call the police to help rescue a victim without putting yourself in danger.
Trafficking Resources for Truckers
As a truck driver, you can use various helpful resources to stay up to date on trafficking information and prevention and continue educating yourself on the issues.
Some prevention resources you can consult include the Department of Homeland Security or the Polaris Project, organizations established to end trafficking and prostitution at truck stops.
One media resource you can access is the film Lot Lizard (2016, Alexander Perlman), a documentary outlining the realities of sex trafficking in trucking. The film aims to shed light on the horrors that victims face daily and remind viewers that these victims are just as human as the rest of us.
Other web resources you can access for information and anti-trafficking content include:

Polk County teacher, Disney employees among 219 arrested in human trafficking-focused bust: PCSO
Largest human-trafficking sting in Polk County
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Three Disney employees and a high school teacher and coach were among more than 200 arrested in a week-long, undercover human trafficking-focused operation in Polk County.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, 83 suspects were arrested for soliciting a prostitute and traveling to the undercover location to negotiate having sex in exchange for money; 17 other suspects were arrested, and of those, five were either deriving proceeds from prostitution or aiding and abetting prostitutes, and eight drove the prostitutes to the undercover location.
According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, 21 possible human trafficking victims were identified of the 119 prostitutes arrested in the week-long operation.
Sheriff Judd added that two suspects, Maria Guzman and Freddy Escalona, who he said were both in the country illegally, were charged with felony human trafficking.
"You always think of the guys being human traffickers, but she is the one facing a felony charge which is 30 years in prison. She’s the one that was setting the appointments. She’s the one that was prostituting two young ladies. She was taking 60-70 percent of their money."
Sheriff Judd said she met the victims online claiming she was looking for people to work in construction.
"They were going to construct sexual encounters," Sheriff Judd said.
The second human trafficker, Freddy Escalona, the sheriff’s office charged is also in the country illegally, according to Sheriff Judd.
"He’s come here illegally to victimize people in the United States," Sheriff Judd stated.
Sheriff Judd said he lent a woman money and when she couldn’t pay him back, he forced her into prostitution and kept 60-70 percent of the money she made.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd along with a mugshot of Maria Guzman.
Sheriff Judd went on to state that two women who were friends went to Polk County for sex and brought a 14-month-old child with them. The child was turned over immediately to DCF, who placed the toddler with a family member.
Another man, according to Sheriff Judd, left his one-year-old daughter at home alone while he went to Polk County to have sex. The sheriff added that the man told deputies he didn’t leave the child home alone because the dog was watching her.
The child was also turned over to DCF and deputies said they made sure the dog had food and water.
According to Sheriff Judd, Russell Rogers of Winter Haven, was also arrested. Sheriff Judd said he is an athletic director at Vanguard School and is also a teacher at Auburndale High School REAL Academy. Sheriff Judd says he is married with three children. According to PCSO, he was a head coach at several different locations.
"This dude now is coaching in the county jail. I can’t believe we want somebody like this around our children," Sheriff Judd shared.
Following Rogers arrest, Polk County Schools stated, "We’re disappointed to learn that one of our employees was engaging in this kind of behavior. Part of being an educator is understanding that you are held to a higher standard for your actions in the classroom, as well as the community. These charges don’t involve students, and Rogers was not on duty as a teacher, but this kind of conduct still has no place in our school system."
The school district added., Russell Rogers was first hired by PCPS in April 2013. He has worked for Real Academy since 2017 and currently serves at the Auburndale campus, earning $55,411 per year. PCPS said it is moving forward with the process of terminating Rogers’ employment with our school district.
Another man who was arrested, according to PCSO, is the CFO of a California retirement center who told deputies, "It’s not illegal to cheat on your wife."
Sheriff Judd said deputies reminded him that in the state of Florida, it is illegal to pay prostitutes for sex.
According to PCSO, three suspects arrested were Disney employees. Sheriff Judd added that another man arrested worked for a Disney hotel.
"This guy has marshmallows for brains," Sheriff Judd said of a man who saw the police and watched a man and a woman enter the room and not come out, went inside when he thought it was his turn.
Detectives charged a total of 44 felonies and 242 misdemeanors during the investigation.
By The Numbers:
35 of the arrested are suspected of being in the country illegally and three of those were identified as victims of human trafficking. Those who are here illegally are from six different countries: Cuba, Chile, Venezuela, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, and the Bahamas.
41 suspects told detectives they are married
13 suspects told detectives they receive government assistance
42 suspects brought illegal drugs to the location: detectives seized fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana
2 suspects brought firearms to the undercover location
18 suspects were from other states: Alabama, California, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin
The oldest person arrested is 76 years old (Frank Bydairk), while the youngest is 18 years old (Latrice Vilsaint)

Cache Of Secret Videos, Photos Found By Jeffrey Epstein’s Estate Could Spark FBI Investigation
For several years now, there has been much speculation about the existence of a Jeffrey Epstein address book containing hundreds of names, including celebrities and politicians.
Ghislaine once reportedly told a friend, Christina Oxenberg, “Jeffrey and I have everyone on videotape.”
She did not reveal any of those alleged videos or the address book to authorities before or during her trial in an effort to reduce her prison sentence.
Perhaps she was worried that she would end up dead like Jeffrey Epstein if she did.
Now, however, that cat may be out of the bag, so to speak.
According to federal court documents filed by the U.S. Virgin Islands and shared by Inner City Press, Jeffrey Epstein’s estate has discovered a cache of photos and videos.
The images could be used in an ongoing lawsuit against JP Morgan Chase and Deutsche Bank for allegedly enabling Jeffrey Epstein by providing him with the funds to support his illegal lifestyle.
New York Federal Judge Jed S. Rakoff wrote in a recent ruling regarding the photos and videos, “If during the course of that review, the Estate sees a particular recording that appears to contain possible CSAM [Child Sexual Abuse Material], it shall promptly stop further review of that recording and notify the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or such other agency or entity as the FBI direct of the recording’s existence.
“No CSAM shall be copied or transmitted to another party, except as directed by the FBI or other governmental agency.”
The videos and photos were discovered after subpoena was issued by lawyers for one of Jeffrey Epstein’s unidentified alleged victims.
Lawsuit Accusing Trump of Raping a 13-Year-Old Girl Reemerges in Light of Defamation Lawsuit
The ongoing defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump involving E. Jean Carroll brought up stories about past allegations of assaults by the former president.
Carroll alleged that Trump raped her in a New York City department store in the 90s. However, she sued over calling her “a liar.”
The civil trial brought up old alleged cases, with one standing out more since the alleged victim was a 13-year-old virgin.
The charges were dropped in 2016, and the woman remained Jane Doe and Katie Johnson, which is not her real name. However, the severity of this case was never truly examined since the elections occupied the media.
Wild and Graphic Accusations
The initial allegations, brought by attorney Lisa Bloom claimed Johnson was violently raped in 1994. The assault allegedly happened when the 13-year-old attended org..s organized by Jeffrey Epstein.
Epstein allegedly lured Johnson by promising her a modeling career. In the withdrawn lawsuit, Johnson claimed she met Trump four times.
One encounter was described as a “savage sexual attack.” Allegedly, Johnson “loudly pleaded” for the former president to stop when he started “violently striking Plaintiff in the face with his open hand and screaming that he would do whatever he wanted.”
In the allegations, Jane Doe said she was not allowed to tell anyone or would disappear like Maria. She explained that Maria was a 12-year-old girl also allegedly violated by Trump, never to be seen again.
Epstein Was Not Happy
Johnson also alleged that Epstein complained, “I should have been 1st.”
A tweet from March 11, 2023, came with a case number and alleged transcript from the deposition.
Before the elections, at least 15 women came with similar stories about the former president. There were also alleged witnesses, Tiffany Doe and Joan Doe.
Joan Doe was Johnson’s classmate, and she learned about the alleged events as they happened. Tiffany Doe alleged that she saw the assault.
This whole story was not just overlooked, but it also brought some bizarre characters. There was a video of “Katie,” but it turned out to be Norm Lubow, a former producer on the Jerry Springer show, as Vox reported.
Trump’s Friendship With Epstein
It is well known that Trump was on friendly terms with Epstein. In the Access Hollywood tape, which will be used in the defamation trial, he infamously said, “grab them by the pu…y.”
Trump called it “locker-room talk.”
Radar Online alleges that Epstein’s brother said that Epstein wanted to distance himself from Trump. The reason was that Epstein thought Trump was a “crook.”
The former president and Epstein, convicted of soliciting minors, started hanging out in the late 80s or early 90s. They ran in the same social circles, and Trump infamously told New York magazine, “He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it-Jeffrey enjoys his social life.”
Other allegations of abusing minors showed during Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial.
Trump’s Suggestive Post
Ironically or not, Trump suggested DeSantis was “grooming” underage girls in his post on Truth Social.
Someone shared an image on Truth Social, writing, “Here is Ron DeSanctimonious grooming high school girls with alcohol as a teacher.” Trump reshared the picture, writing, “That’s not Ron. He would never do such a thing!”
It is clear why these allegations reappeared. Not only is Trump in the middle of a civil defamation case, but the claims made by Johnson were dropped only a few days before the 2016 elections.
And with these allegations, many raised questions about the Clintons and Epstein. But this is where the story ends, for now.

Marc Dutroux: The pedophile & serial killer whose crimes changed Belgium (TW)
In 1996, Marc Dutroux was arrested on suspicion of having kidnapped, tortured and sexually abused six girls aged between 8 and 19, four of whom died. His widely publicized trial took place in 2004. Dutroux was convicted of all charges, along with the murder of a suspected former accomplice, and sentenced to life imprisonment. Dutroux's accomplices included Michelle Martin, Michel Lelièvre, Jean-Michel Nihoul, and Bernard Weinstein. Martin was convicted and sentenced as an accomplice to 30 years in prison, while Lelièvre was sentenced to 25 years. Nihoul, a Brussels conman, pub-owner and familiar face at sex parties, was initially tried as an accomplice to the kidnappings, but was acquitted of these charges due to insufficient evidence. He was instead convicted of involvement in a gang that participated in human and drug trafficking and was sentenced to five years in prison. Weinstein was never tried, as he was murdered by Dutroux. Some testimonies implicated that Etienne Davignon, Maurice Lippens, Willy Claes, Paul Vanden Boeynants, Benoît de Bonvoisin and Prince Alexandre of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha were named as having been present at orgies involving underage boys and girls. A number of shortcomings in the Dutroux investigation caused widespread discontent in Belgium with the country's criminal justice system, and the ensuing scandal was one of the reasons for the reorganization of Belgium's law enforcement agencies and widespread allegations of corruption and infiltration of the Belgian justice system by a criminal enterprise. In the White March, 300,000 Belgian citizens protested the mishandling of the case. Michelle Martin was freed on parole in 2012 after 16 years in prison. Michel Nihoul died in 2019. Sadly, this evil is still going strong this very day, even more so. You will be baffled about what is going on in our world if you just take your time to truly research things. Perhaps one of the most shocking elements of pedophilia and human trafficking is the fact that there are so many people who live in denial and shout "fake news". It is our duty to unite and raise awareness.

Sex Trafficking in America (full documentary) | FRONTLINE
This 2019 documentary tells the stories of young women coerced into prostitution – and follows one police unit that’s committed to rooting out sexual exploitation.
Award-winning director Jezza Neumann and producer Lauren Mucciolo (“Poor Kids”) embed with the Phoenix police unit that’s tackling child sexual exploitation, offering an inside look at the lucrative industry through unique access to a series of undercover, high-stakes police operations. They also film with young women who have escaped the trade. Using fake online ads as decoys, the Phoenix police unit targets both the traffickers luring young women into prostitution, and the “buyers” – many of whom claim to not know that the girls they interact with are victims of trafficking. With extensive and intimate access to local law enforcement, prosecutors, service providers and the women themselves, the film shines a light on the hidden reality of sex trafficking in America.
